About the Program
The program generally runs in 4 or 5 class blocks a few times a year:
Classes run $25 per class ( A block of 5 classes is $125)
We also have Summer camps.
Arty-Pants is an exciting place for young people to hang out on Fridays in an environment designed to open up minds, and help creativity pour out all over some paper! We will be do various projects, with a focus on learning different skills, and helping to take a look at the world around us in a more interesting and strange way. Our project choices are unlimited, and we do lots of different things all the time using different mediums and styles.
When you learn to see the world in a more interesting and complicated way, you have a greater appreciation for all the things around you!
All materials are included, and each block of classes will be something new. So if you like what we are doing, we encourage you to please come back for more!
It is an art club, with an emphasis on doing fun projects in a positive and helpful environment, where we can open up people's minds to the amazing world around us, and to expressing feelings and dreams within us. That will always be our main goal. It is about an appreciation for art, and an attitude towards our world. And fun.. tons of fun.. because we are super duper fun.
Grades 3 - 8 (Ages 8 - 15) 12 student maximum per block. (No drop-ins, no starting half way through the program.
About Us
Arty-Pants is run by Blaise Kolodychuk who is assisted by Elaine Boyling.
Summer camps generally also include Beth Murray, a former student of Blaise's and student at the Alberta University of the Arts.
Blaise is a full time teaching assistant / art instructor at a Montessori school in Calgary, and both have been a part of the after school care program team (Where they organised and started up various art centred clubs.) Elaine previously worked at the school with Blaise and now divides her time by writing children's novels, making art dolls and music, and working as a researcher with the University of Calgary at the Foothills hospital.
Blaise Kolodychuk has lived in Calgary all his life, and at the age of 7, along with his best friend, he started up a comic book company, which grew into music, and eventually into films. And continues to this day over 30 years later. He has been living his life as an artist from the very beginning, and has gone to the Alberta college of Art and design, and SAIT (For producing and directing films) With a life dedicated to art and his children, it is little wonder he eventually ended up working in an elementary school. Blaise is a registered child care assistant and continues to paint, be in several bands, and is an award nominated director, making low budget films.
Elaine Boyling was born in Scotland and grew up in England surrounded by dancing, art and music. She has also been making things non stop since she was a very young girl. With a huge talent for music and song writing she attended the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, and eventually ended up with a Masters Degree in Anthropology and a PhD in the history of medicine. She has written and recorded more songs than anyone I have ever personally met, and is a published author who spends a great deal of her time writing fiction. She has a love of children, art, and a huge appetite for story telling and learning.
Blaise and Elaine both have passed Police checks, Child welfare checks, and both have standard first aid and CPR training.
